Where does HMA meet? What time?

We meet at Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst, TX. The address is shared with families once their child is registered with HMA - DFW. Classes are Thursdays, 11:30-12:30p in a semester format. 

FAQs about HMA-DFW

What age range is most appropriate for HMA-DFW? 

HMA-DFW is for students ages 6 and up! Instruction is tailored to the needs and abilities of the students.

Is there a registration fee? Gear fee?

Yes. Tuition is around $15/hour of instruction, with most semesters being 12-13 hours total, plus the belt test at the end of semester. Gear prices vary based on the equipment, size, and age-level. You can learn more by visiting our Class Info page.

What does my child wear to class?

If coming to an Open Mat - athletic shorts and shirt. If coming during a semester, students are expected to be in full gi for class - gi pants and top, belt - and have all gear appropriate to their rank. 

Do my kid(s) need prior martial arts experience? 

No! HMA-DFW is structured for students of varying ages and experience levels. If your child does have prior experience, they will be assessed by the Lead Instructor and given the appropriate rank at HMA-DFW based on the skill level and competency, according to HMA's ranking system.

Can I use my gi, or sparring gear from previous schools?

Yes - potentially. The Lead Instructor Brian, will determine if the gi and/or gear is satisfactory for the purposes of training at HMA-DFW. In most cases, a student will be able to utilize gear previously purchased. If you don't have the necessary gear, that's okay! HMA-DFW can provide gear to students at a reasonable, and competitive, price. 

What does class typically look like?

The content for each class will vary, but generally, students will focus on strikes, kicks, and self-defense techniques according to their belt rank and the rank they are working towards. This training can include drills, games, sparring, and other variations. 

Is HMA-DFW exclusively Christian?

No. While Lead Instruction Brian and Junior Instructor Elijah are Christian, and Christian principles are used to lead class, HMA-DFW is not exclusively Christian. Faith in Jesus is talked about in class, however, students are families from all backgrounds are welcome and will not be excluded, ostracized, or looked-down upon based on their personal beliefs. Disparaging others, including their beliefs, is not welcome or tolerated at HMA-DFW, where the focus is on building character for life - Confidence. Discipline. Excellence.
